How the NYT Connections Game Works.

Every day, I get a new puzzle with 16 random words on a grid. My job is to organize them into four sets of four words
that are connected in some way—maybe by category, meaning, wordplay, or pop culture. It sounds simple, but the challenge is real.

You only get four wrong attempts before the game ends, so there’s real pressure to think clearly and avoid common traps.

My Best Strategies for Solving Connections.

  • Start with the most obvious connections: If I can clearly group four words into a category like colors, animals, or TV shows, I do that first.
  • Shuffle the words: A new layout often helps me see patterns I missed before.
  • Don’t overthink: Words might be linked by rhymes, puns, or even a shared suffix.
  • Narrow down outliers: If a group almost fits but has one oddball, that word may belong elsewhere.

Where I Go When I Need a Hint or Today’s Answer.

Sometimes I hit a wall and don’t want to burn all my guesses. When that happens, I check out
SchoolTest.org’s NYT Connections Help Page.
It’s my go-to site because they give daily hints, subtle clues, and full answers if I need them.

I’ve also noticed that websites like Mashable and the official NYT Connections Companion page have hint sections,
but in my experience, SchoolTest.org has the clearest and most consistent help when I need it most.

Why I Think the Connections Game Is So Addictive.

I’ve played a lot of word and logic puzzles, but there’s something about Connections that keeps me coming back every day.
I think the appeal comes from a few things:

  • It only takes a few minutes, but I still feel like I’ve accomplished something.
  • The “aha!” moment when I find a hidden category is genuinely satisfying.
  • It’s shareable—perfect for comparing results with friends.
  • It forces me to think in different ways and keeps my mind sharp.
